ACRT Celebrates 30th Anniversary
February 11, 2015
Akron, OHIO — The industry’s only independent national vegetation management consultant, ACRT, Inc., celebrates 30 years of operations and a rich history of helping utilities, municipal forestry departments, tree companies and others in the green industry across the country improve through assessments, consulting, representation and training.
“We have endured challenges and experienced great successes with our committed team members who constantly and consistently build upon our strengths while providing the best service to our customers with safety always at the forefront,” said Mike Weidner, ACRT president and CEO.
ACRT was founded Feb. 11, 1985 in the home of Richard and Sue Abbott. With only five employees, it was named for its service lines: Appraisal, Consulting, Research and Training. It soon began operating from an office in nearby Kent with initial work focused on providing arborist training through the Joint Training Partnership Act (JTPA) programs in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Indiana and Michigan.
In less than a decade, ACRT began offering expertise with utility preplanning and urban forestry programs, and it expanded to provide environmental services with a focus on wetland projects.
Now headquartered in Akron, ACRT employs professionals throughout the United States. With growing utility grids, enhanced clearance requirements along rights of way and a continuous need throughout the industry for skill and safety training, ACRT has witnessed many changes in the last three decades and looks toward further growth.
Employees across the country will celebrate ACRT’s 30th anniversary by commemorating its founding and noting the company’s many milestones, including when ACRT became 100 percent employee owned in May 2003.
“These first 30 years have been just the beginning,” Weidner said. “We are excited to grow our team through new opportunities and all that is to come.”
